Natural do Algarve, de Lagos, Alex nasceu a 6 de Agosto de 1990. Cresceu junto ao mar, onde quase tudo o que fazia era no oceano. Em adolescente essa conexão com o mar levou-o a viajar e acabou por passar os invernos na Califórnia dedicado à onda de Mavericks, onde nasceu e desenvolveu a sua paixão por ondas grandes. Hoje em dia é definitivamente um dos melhores free surfers do país, e desde 2013 tem vindo a mostrar grande interesse em surfar as ondas da Praia do Norte, onde tem sido um destaque na remada. Alex Botelho ganhou em 2016 o prémio para destaque português no concurso Red Charges e três das cinco categorias da segunda edição do prémio EDP Mar Sem Fim.
From the Algarve, Lagos, Alex was born on August 6th 1990. He grew up by the sea where almost anything he did was in the ocean. Later, as a teenager, this connection with the ocean drove him to travel until he started to spend the winters in California, dedicated to the wave of Mavericks, where his passion for big waves was born and grew. Nowadays he’s definitely one of the best free surfers of the country, and since 2013 he’s shown a big interest in surfing the waves at Praia do Norte, where he’s been a standout in the paddle sessions. Alex Botelho won in 2016 the Red Chargers prize for Portuguese performance and 3 out of 5 categories from the EDP Mar Sem Fim Awards.
